27 Nov 2017 Deirdre O'Kane steps out for Christmas Sock Day 2017 image

Award-winning actress and comedian, Deirdre O’ Kane, stepped out in Dublin today to share details of TK Maxx’s annual Christmas Sock Day, which takes place on Wednesday, 6 December, 2017. Introduced by labels-for-less retailer TK Maxx, the campaign invites the public to flaunt their finest festive footwear to raise funds for Enable Ireland, which provides vital support services for children and young people with disabilities across Ireland.

Anyone can take part by donning their favourite Christmas socks, striking a pedi pose, and sharing a #socksie with the world on December 6. For every #socksie uploaded to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram from Ireland, TK Maxx will donate €1 to Enable Ireland to help take action for children and young people with disabilities*.

And if your sock drawer is looking a little bare, TK Maxx is stocking a fabulously fun range of official charity Christmas socks in stores nationwide, priced at €5.99 for both adult and kid designs. This exclusive collection is available in-store now, with at least €2.00 from the sale of every pack donated to Enable Ireland.

Kitted out in her finest festive footwear, Deirdre O’Kane commented on her involvement in the 2017 campaign: “Who doesn’t love putting on festive socks and getting cosy in the lead up to Christmas? A simple sock selfie is one of the easiest ways to help raise funds for Enable Ireland this Christmas. I’m not going to lie, I’ve undertaken some intensive #socksie training, so looking forward to unleashing my ‘seasonal sock selection’ with the nation on December 6.”

Deborah Dolce, Group Brand and Marketing Director at TK Maxx, said: “We’re asking everyone to proudly rock their boldest and brightest Christmas socks to show support for Enable Ireland. Flaunt a favourite pair you already own, or treat yourself to a new pair of official charity socks from our stores. Just step out, share a #socksie and we’ll do the rest.
We are committed to helping vulnerable children and young people across Europe achieve their potential. Taking part in Christmas Sock Day is an easy way to raise money for a fantastic cause.”

Enable Ireland provides vital therapy and support services to over 5,000 children and young people with disabilities across Ireland. Since 1997, TK Maxx customers and associates have raised over €2.8 million to support more than 5,000 children and young people with disabilities and their families in local communities across 14 counties.

Joanne O’Hagan, Head of Fundraising at Enable Ireland said: 'We are delighted to be working in partnership with TK Maxx again this year to support Christmas Sock Day. The campaign made such an impact last year and has helped us to continue to provide much needed support services for children and young adults with disabilities in Ireland. We hope the people of Ireland will continue to show their generosity and put on their festive socks in support again this year.'

So, pull your socks up to show your support and help take action for children and young people with disabilities. Wear a pair, share a pair, make a difference. Get involved by sharing your own #socksie on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
